The telenovela La Reina del Sur, that in turn was adapted from the same-titled book by Spanish novelist Arturo Pérez-Reverte, served as the basis for Queen of the South. Teresa Mendoza, an impoverished Mexican lady who develops a big drug business, serves as the series’ main character.
Teresa resides in the Mexican state of Sinaloa’s Culiacan neighborhood. She falls in love with a member of a drug gang in an effort to leave her miserable existence behind. She is forced to move on after learning that her boyfriend was murdered.
She escapes the border into the United States and joins the cartel boss’s wife’s criminal network, where she is chased after. Due to her charm and different perspective on the medication distribution industry, Teresa draws colleagues and eventually founds her own drug distribution company.
Teresa achieves great success, which causes her to face greater challenges, make more sacrifices, and draw the attention of secret federal agencies.

Queen of the South Season 6 Release Date: Why It Was Cancelled?
After season 5, Queen of the South was cancelled, in part because the plot had run its course and in part, because USA Network had changed its direction.
After season 4 of Queen of the South ended in August 2019, it was soon renewed for a fifth season. However, it was then announced in March 2021 that the upcoming season (i.e. season 5) will serve as the series’ final one.
The likelihood of the show getting renewed is low given the responses from viewers over season six. However, they are not sufficient to persuade authorities to resume the series.
However, if fans are hoping for Queen of the South season 6, they will be let down because those are the last episodes of the program.

Queen of the South Season 6 Plot: How The Story Could Have Progressed?
In Queen of the South episode 9, the main character Teresa Mendoza was shot and killed by a shooter, who was later identified as James, ultimately shocking fans. Numerous sequences in episode 10 feature Teresa’s body, making it appear that the drug lord has been eliminated.
However, in the season 5 finale scenes, we discovered that Teresa was still alive and well, living in a magnificent villa by the shore after she managed to falsify her death.
Queen of the South season 6 might have featured Teresa in her fresh start away from the realm of drug cartels and crime syndicates, which doesn’t sound as dramatic or exciting.
However, it seems like the right decision to give Queen of the South a pleasant conclusion and stop the series after season 5.
