It has been quite some time since the fans have been waiting for the next installment of the Derry Girls and we are here to share some good news – Derry Girls Season 3 is coming pretty soon!
As per the official confirmations that we have, the show is returning back to deliver its final installment and the makers expect and believe it to be the best of the lot so far. After the confirmation, it was the worldwide pandemic that affected the planned schedule and caused a delay in the filming. However, on the other side of this long wait, it looks like the team has started with its job.

Derry Girls Season 3 – About the show
Derry Girls, a coming-of-age tale, deals with the journey of five absurd teenagers who transform into adults over a period of time. It is not just their physical or emotional being that undergoes a transition but also their surroundings and circumstances. Set in the 90s, the show is comical and interesting.
The drama is set with the political upheaval of Northern Ireland in its backdrop. Starting as high schoolers, the five go on and struggle at being a teenager. Created and written by Lisa McGee, the show is set in the troublesome years of the 1990s in Derry, Northern Ireland.
The story starts with Erin, Orla, Clare, and Michelle going to the same Catholics Girls’ Secondary School. All the girls are related to each other – Orla happens to be the cousin of Erin while Clare, Michelle, and James are their friends. Also, James is Michelle’s cousin.
The plot of the show revolves around these girls exploring their lives and making it through their teenage as the troubles in Derry come to an end. Erin lives with her family that is inclusive of her parents, Gerry and Mary, and their younger baby, Anna. They also live with Orla’s family, which includes Sarah, who happens to be Mary’s sister and Orla’s mother, along with her grandfather from her mother’s side, Joe.
James has an interesting background story. Cathy, James’ mother, made her way to England to abort James while she was pregnant, however, things happened in such a way that James’ birth and upbringing underwent in London.
After some time, Cathy faces the divorce process in her marital life and does not want James to stay and experience all of it. Michelle and James are cousins therefore James is sent back to Derry to reside at Michelle’s place.
What happens in the lives of these youngsters, the changes and challenges that they face, the ways in which they handle themselves and eventually grow up and mature, is what Derry Girls explores and answers for the fans.
Derry Girls Season 3 Release Date: When Is The Third Season Arriving?
The first season of Derry Girls was telecasted during January and February 2018. After a year, Channel 4 came up with the second season during March and April 2019. The makers did come up with a renewal for a third season soon after this.
Derry Girls Season 3 came through with an official confirmation back in April 2019. Sadly, because of the outbreak of the COVID 19 pandemic, the filming schedule could not be executed as per the plans and the show had to face a lot of delays.
As per the latest updates, the shooting for the third installment of the teenage drama started officially in October 2021. This was confirmed with a post from Lisa McGee, the creator, and writer of the show. Lisa posted a picture with a clapperboard that directly indicated the beginning on the sets.
As of now, we clearly do not have a release date for Derry Girls Season 3. However, there are solid hints about the shooting and progress that make us expect the show to be out somewhere in 2022.

Derry Girls Season 3 Cast – Who Is Coming Back And Who’s Not?
The major cast for Derry Girls Season 3 is expected to stay the same. Nicola Coughlan will be back as Clare Devlin, the reasonable voice who steps out as a homosexual by the end of the first season, while Saoirse-Monica Jackson will join as Erin Quinn, the girl who is often affected by the opinion that others hold of her.
Louisa Harland would return as Orla McCool, who is considered stupid by those beside her. Jamie-Lee O’Donnell and Dylan Llewellyn are also going to make a comeback as Michelle Mallon and James Maguire respectively.
